Leading with Your Values
For all federal, state, local and aspiring public servants, this self-paced eLearning course supports leaders to better understand their own values and how to connect them to their leadership.
You’ll identify which values are most important to you, practice developing a leadership statement that incorporates your values, and explore some common ways leaders can build values into their team’s work. You’ll be better prepared to articulate what values drive your actions and how to connect values to the work you’re doing, benefiting both you and your team.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand the connection between values and leadership
- Identify which values are most important to you
- Explore strategies to make your values a transparent part of your leadership practice
Course Structure
This course consists of six lessons completed through our eLearning Platform. It includes engaging and interactive course content and activities designed to help you improve your awareness of your own values and practically apply that awareness to your leadership.
The course includes six modules:
Lesson 1:
Introduction, Logistics and Expectations
a. Learn about the course and how to set yourself up for a positive learning experience
Lesson 2:
Values and the Public Service Leadership Model
a. Understand the Public Service Leadership Model’s approach to values-based leadership and how it fits into your role as a leader and influencer of others
Lesson 3:
Uncovering Your Values
a. Engage with an interactive activity to help you clarify the values that are most important to you and how they impact your leadership
Lesson 4:
Making Values Transparent
a. Explore strategies for intentionally, and transparently, incorporating values into your leadership practice to improve team performance
Lesson 5:
Committing to Action
a. Create your action plan to help hold yourself accountable to applying your new knowledge
Lesson 6:
Final Logistics
a. Celebrate course completion and receive your certificate and Accredible badge
Upon successful completion, you’ll receive:

FAQs
eLearning courses and certificates are designed for all public service leaders, HR professionals and employees in state, local and federal government. Offerings may be recommended for specific types of leaders (e.g., emerging, leader of projects, leader of leaders or leader of organizations). But other leaders may also sign up.
Everyone is eligible to participate in our courses, whether you are a current or former government employee, aspiring to be a government employee, or interested in learning about the unique challenges and opportunities of government work.
After purchasing a course, you will receive an automated message from our eLearning platform with a receipt and instructions on how to create an account.
No. Sharing courses with others is prohibited. We ask users to keep their login credentials to themselves. (Terms of Use)
This course costs $79.
Yes, you can purchase a single course, or multiple “seats” for a single course or certificate program. Upon payment, you will be emailed a list of voucher codes that allow users to gain access to the course.
Payment is due before you create an account and start a course or program. In lieu of direct payment, potential users (or those purchasing multiple seats) can request an invoice for their organization to process. Following the confirmed payment from an invoice, an automated email confirming receipt, a voucher code and steps to create an account will be emailed. We accept the following forms of payment:
- Credit card (Visa, Mastercard or American Express)
- Purchase order or Standard Form 182 (SF-182)
- Automated Clearing House (ACH) transfer or check
You have access to this course for 60 days after enrollment. You’ll retain access to all materials for 1 additional week after your 60 days have ended.
All eLearning course purchases are nonrefundable. Once a course has been purchased, no refunds will be issued.

All courses are in Moodle, an online learning platform that hosts all the course materials, activities, and resources you will need. After you have purchased your course and set up your account, you will be able to access your course content, participate in discussion forums, complete course activities, and track your progress. Our course is organized into modules and every module has several lessons.
The course is asynchronous. This means you can start and stop the course on your own time as long as you complete it before your access expires.
While you can use any device including laptop, desktop computer, phones, and tablets, we highly encourage the use of laptops or desktop for optimal user experience. We are working diligently to improve the mobile and app users experience.
